Piʻikū Co. is a Hawaiʻi-based 501(c)(3) work-based learning organization that creates opportunities for kānaka and kamaʻāina emerging technologists while helping local organizations address real needs.
Piʻikū runs a rural health Digital Innovation and Technology initiative, a statewide hub that designs, builds, tests, and supports digital tools for telehealth and digital literacy across Hawaiʻi. The initiatives's software is built by Piʻikū product pods: emerging local technologists, paid for real work and guided by senior engineering, design, and product leads and industry mentors. Every project produces a working solution and paid experience for local talent.
Piʻikū is hiring a Program Director to run the rural health initiative. This is the person who decides what the initiative works on, keeps the rural health org partnership relationship strong, and makes sure the grant's commitments get delivered on time and on budget. They lead the overall leadership and oversight of the initiative, including strategic planning, program implementation, partnerships, budget oversight, and reporting.
The Program Director sets direction and owns outcomes. The Program Director sources and leads everyone on the team: a Pod Program Manager runs the software builds, a User Researcher runs community listening and evaluation, a Grant Manager runs tracking, invoicing, and compliance, and a Marketing Manager runs recruitment campaigns and public content for the software builds. The Program Director leads all four, with substantial day-to-day independence, and reports to the Executive Director, who provides supervision, strategic guidance, and board-level accountability. The Program Director also directs the two as-needed teams named in the proposal: the Digital Innovation Build Teams (pods, senior technical leadership, mentors, and specialist consultants), and the Technology Planning, Assessment & Training Team (clinical and telehealth experts from the rural health org's network, plus senior technical advisors).
The first year runs from early November to April 30, 2027, about 26 weeks. Two pods run back to back inside that window within a 21 week window time.
